Texas State Champs Baby!!
My first year as an athletic trainer and one of my teams wins state. Who would’ve thunk? I am so proud of this group of girls. They worked so hard and had great attitudes. It also helps that they are highly athletic and there are only two seniors. I’m pretty sure we will get to state the next two years.

Today I shot a black bird.
It was kind of an accident. Sometimes, my ‘brother’ lets me shoot his beretta when he has extra bullets. I like to shoot at trees because it’s fun to watch the leaves fall. Well when I shoot at the tree this last time, there was a bird in the way. So of course josh and I went to find it so I could take a picture with it.

Here’s how Texas high school sports work: based on how many students are in the school district determines the classification of the school. 199 and under is 1A. 200-429 is 2A. 430-989 is 3A. 990-2,064 is 4A. And 2,065 and above is 5A.
Crawford is considered 2A with just 209 students. So we are a very small 2A school. There are 229 such schools within this classification.
Furthermore, Texas is divided into regions. Each region sends a team to state within each classification. We just won the regional finals. Therefore. We are going to state. Of 229 school that are similar to our demographics, we are in the top 4. I am so proud of these girls.

Bugs. This lovely creature has the audacity to chicken fight with my car. The car obviously won.
Ever since moving to Texas, I have encountered a plethora of bugs. And I have just had to get used to them because I cannot tell you how many times I have had big ugly beetles crawling on my things or found crickets creeping in my bedroom.

I just wanna love you
Every so often I stay the night at my Texas family’s house. There is a boisterous freshman girl named Jesslyn and she is slowly becoming one of my favorite people.
I had just gotten to their house from a long day at a track meet and was fixing to take a shower. I’m in the bathroom and all of a sudden I hear a knock on the door. I am practically half naked and can’t really answer it so I scream ‘I’m about to take a shower. What do you want?’
Now I haven’t seen Jess yet since I got there so I hear Jesslyn reply ‘I just wanna love you!!’
I love coming home to this.

I feel like I make the same wish everytime; whether it’s a dandelion or 11:11 or a shooting star, it’s always the same.
Does anyone else find themselves doing this?

Truth
‘I was more of the princess in the tower school of dating, where you drop your hair out the window and desperately hope your chosen prince will take the hint and choose to climb up. If he doesn’t, you hastily coil your hair back up, retreat into the tower, and pretend you never meant it in the first place. Hair, what hair? Never seen the hair before in my life.’
The betrayal of the blood lily
Lauren willigThis is not to be confused with the damsel in distress school. I was never really good at that one.

In like
Today, on the phone, my mom asked if I was ‘in like’ with anybody. I said no. She replied ‘oh good my prayers are working.’
I know she wasn’t serious but I have a feeling a part of her was.

Death and Love
My aunt passed away a week ago. She lived in Nebraska and had just an amazing heart and an amazing family. It somehow worked out for me to drive there and meet my parents and sister and attend the funeral and just be available to her adult kids (mainly in the form of a babysitter to the six grandchildren)
I think in death we learn the important things in life: relationships.
There’s really more I could say about that but I think it’s enough. Family and friends are really all that matter. Not success. Not fame. Not glory. Just love.
